Clothing can be a sort of armour. Ever since I was a kid, what I wear has felt important and required deep consideration. As an adult, I still feel the shift within me when I wear certain items of clothing. This series of textile works began with a bag of old clothes too worn to give away and having too much sentimental value to throw in the trash. The series features old items of clothing which have been dyed, bleached and immersed in colour pigment, wrapped together, left to marinate over a three week period in the studio, then dried & some torn by hand. This process breaks down the fibres, & garments become fragile, they still function as items of clothing but also become sort of mummified or preserved. I am interested in how these functional items of clothing might represent our own bodies as they change, get older & break down.
